HISTORIC ORIENT
Orient, NY

Our Historic Orient project is a thoughtful restoration of a classic sea captain’s home, set amidst a collection of outbuildings scattered across the property. The design aims to honor the past while creating a harmonious space for the future. By carefully organizing the remaining structures, we have reimagined the property’s layout, using the footprints of former barns and outbuildings to define new garden rooms.

Timeless English dry stone walling and carefully placed hedges have been employed to create boundaries and introduce a sense of enclosure, allowing each garden room to feel distinct yet connected. Unique elements throughout the property serve as nods to family history and treasured memories—such as the ancient blueberry grove, which honors a grandmother’s legacy in Maryland, and a monogrammed threshold stone, rescued from a family estate in Pennsylvania and lovingly relocated to the North Fork.

Collaborating closely with the homeowner, an avid gardener, we are also working to replace expanses of lawn with native plantings, furthering the property’s connection to the land and its rich history. This project stands as a testament to the enduring power of place, memory, and thoughtful design
