LAKEFRONT RETREAT
Montauk, NY
When a young and vibrant family set out to transform a former hunting lodge on Lake Montauk into a sustainable retreat, they turned to us to seamlessly integrate eco-friendly elements into the landscape. Originally, an 82-panel solar array was planned beside the driveway—an approach that needed a more thoughtful solution. We collaborated with the solar company to reimagine the panels as part of a curving stone wall and pergola, nestled within a native meadow, blending functionality with beauty. Beneath the lawn, a hidden cistern collects roof runoff for irrigation, with excess water directed to a native rain garden. Sustainability extends throughout the property, from an expansive apple orchard to a thriving vegetable garden. The result is a landscape that not only supports the family’s lifestyle but also enhances the ecological health of its stunning lakeside setting.
